Mikaila Van Hill's Art Projects

  For this  project,  we practiced  different ways  to paint with  watercolors .  After  practicing,  we then made our galaxies using at least three of those techniques and making s ure we had a landscape and a constellation.     An extension for this activity could be to add  a short story to go along with the galaxy.  They could write about the things in their galaxy and what makes their galaxy different or better than the rest.   

  For this project we started off by learning about M.C. Escher and his artwork that uses perspective. Then to start the drawing portion we made a  dot in the middle of our paper and then  drawing eight boxes of al l  different sizes . We had four on each side of  the dot that we made at the  beginning. After making our boxes we connected the corners of the boxes to the dot in the middle using a ruler.  After  making boxes,  we  outlined everything in sharpie and  then put patterns in each of the boxes .  Finally, we colored the bottom parts of the boxes with analogous colors to make the patterns pop.   An extension for this activity could be having students find a different artist that uses perspective and write about their artwork. They could compare and contrast their artist with M.C Escher.

  For this project we  started by  learning about the elements in a safari.  We  talked  about the animals we could see and where safaris typically take place .  After talking and learning about safaris, we made glasses that we would use  later on .  We then chose the animals we would draw and “hide on our papers.” I chose to do a monkey drawn in a cool color and then put a bunch of patterns over it wi th warm colors.  After drawing it we put on our glasses that we made to see through the patterns, to the animal we drew prior.    An extension for this activity could be to have students  write  a story about their animal. This could be a fictional  made-up  story about where their animal might live and what they do for fun.
