Dot Day

 Description:

Before doing this project we read the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This book shares a great message about how anyone can be an artist if they just believe in themselves. Introducing the art lesson with a book helps integrate a little bit of ELA into art. We were given coffee filters to decorate however we liked. We had to use crayons or oil pastels to draw and write things on the coffee filter. After drawing and writing, we then took water color and painted over the whole coffee filter. The watercolor does not mix with the crayon and oil pastels so doing this made patterns and things written on the coffee filter stand out more. 


Extension Activity:

An extension for this project could be adding that the students have to have something personal about themselves within their dot. This could be their favorite color, food, activity, hobby, etc. but it could help make their dots a little bit more personal. After creating their dot they could do a gallery walk where they get to see everyones personalized dot or they could share with the class what makes theirs special to them.

Footprint Introduction

 Description: I made this footprint using at least three different media. The media's I used were markers, colored pencils, and stickers. We had to include our names and our names had to be written clearly. For mine I made sure my name was written big in the middle of my footprint. I also made sure my name was written in a color that was dark enough and easy to see on the pink paper. I used a variety of different sized images and objects to decorate it to use up the space. Extension Activity: In preschool, the children tend to miss their families a lot so having them make something that includes pictures of their can help them feel more comfortable at school. Teachers can send home a piece of blank paper and let families decorate it with pictures of their family and all their favorite things. After these are made, the papers could all be added to a "Family Binder". This binder could be put out somewhere in the classroom for the students to look at whenever they want to.

Elements and Principles

 My Top 5 Photos Line- This flag is in my living room and the stripes on it worked great for the element line. Texture- This is my laptop case and it has a kind of bumpy or rough texture to it. Pattern- This is a picture of a basket in my room that has a striped pattern on it. Balance (Asymmetrical)- These fake trees were a part of our Christmas decorations that my roommates and I never took down. Space- I took this picture while I was driving because the rainbow was pretty but outside is always a great way to show space. Extension Activity: As an extension activity, you could take two pictures that represent the same element or principle and put the element/principle along with its definition on the back of the pictures. Students could flip two pictures over that they think represent the same element or principle to see if they were right. It makes a fun matching game while also reinforcing the ideas of elements and principles.
